  • YAC was established the fall of 2002 for the purpose of allowing clients to have greater input into the direction of CDRP, as well as providing an informal social network to allow teens to discuss transitional issues (problems at school, social issues at etc.)
  • YAC is responsible for the planning of social events for teen clients of CDRP, these events typically include:

      A holiday dance and social

A Valentine's teen "hanging out night"

Volunteer Opportunities with YAC

Community Outreach by the Youth Advisory Council

  • At the holiday social, attendees may bring a canned good for donation to the food bank.  For each canned good provided, raffle tickets are given away for door prizes.
  • YAC is honored to be associated with the Catholic Youth Organization in Hamilton by assisting with the design of their new universally accessible campsite "Camp Marydale".  YAC members were asked to provide input in consultation with CYO representatives as well as the architects.  This collaboration is ongoing with positive feedback from architects rethinking accessibility.
  •  Selected by the Hamilton community foundation's own youth advisory Council to receive $1500 for 2006 YAC activities are "youth directed".
  •  YAC has begun establishing relationships with community agencies such as Participation House, and the McMaster OT and PT programmes.
  •  YAC has in the past collected pop tabs to raise money for the purchase of wheelchairs (pop tabs were donated to the March of Dimes).
